Since July 2003, alaris has been operating a butterfly park in Sassnitz on the island of Rügen. It is now the fourth park in Germany, in addition to Buchholz, Uslar and Lutherstadt. One difference to the other alaris butterfly parks is the special light on the coast; the high UV content is very similar to the natural light conditions, especially for South American butterflies. The butterfly park in Sassnitz enchants you with a variety of beautiful exotic butterflies. The spacious tropical hall has the climate of a tropical rainforest. More than 140 different butterfly species from four different continents live here.
The "Kieler Bach" can be found shortly before or shortly after the "Königsstuhl". If there is enough water, it forms a real waterfall. You get this view from the "Kieler Ufer". A walk through the beech forest is worthwhile for anyone who enjoys hiking. However, you should be somewhat fit.
Today, Sassnitz town harbour is a mixture of fishing and tourist harbour. Here there is the unmistakable harbour atmosphere with fishing boats, yachts and passenger ships. Fishing cutters, sailors and excursion boats sail in and out of here. Numerous museums, small restaurants and shops invite you to stroll and shop. The town harbour has now developed into a cultural centre for the town of Sassnitz. From here it is only a few metres along the promenade to the old town of Sassnitz.
HMS Otus is an Oberon-class submarine of the British Royal Navy. The submarine was commissioned into the Royal Navy in 1963 and served in the First Submarine Squadron. The Otus was deployed during the Falklands War and in the Persian Gulf. After 28 years of service, the Otus was decommissioned in 1991. Later, the boat was bought by a German entrepreneur. After being transferred to Germany, it was overhauled on the outside at the Volkswerft Stralsund and given a new coat of paint in its original colour. Since then, the Otus has been on display as the U-boat Museum "Erlebniswelt U-Boot" in Sassnitz town harbour.
